The phrase “work smart, not hard” has become commonplace in our modern world. This sentiment is especially important for those of us in the martial arts world, where physical prowess is of the utmost importance. As we age, our physical abilities may diminish, but that doesn’t mean we have to give up on our craft.

#RespectAllAgesAndStages — As we age, it’s easy to become complacent and forget that we still have much to offer. We should respect each stage of life and the skills, knowledge, and experience that comes with it.

In the workplace, the martial arts, or life in general, it is necessary to constantly adjust and stay relevant. On this episode, Aaron Cerrone joins Tim and Steve again. Aaron, a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, discusses “working smarter” as he gets older. He mentions how he was inspired by YouTuber Nick “Chewjitsu” Albin, who talked about what it means to be an aging black belt.

Aaron’s advice is to take a “holistic approach” to everything. This means having honest conversations with ourselves about our capabilities and taking the time to enjoy the journey. It also means looking to the younger generation for inspiration and knowledge. This is key to staying ahead of the game, as the younger generation is often more tech savvy and able to work smarter. He believes that we should look for things to learn, to stay enthusiastic, and always keep growing.

#StayRelevant — Staying relevant is an important part of living a quality life. It keeps us engaged, motivated, and helps us find joy. Tom Parker (who will be on again in a few weeks) is a great example of someone who stays relevant. At the age of 62, he began his journey in the martial arts, and he continues to learn and grow. He has found joy and purpose by sharing his wisdom and experiences with others. Staying relevant doesn't just mean staying up to date with the latest trends and technology. It also means staying connected to our passions and interests. Whether it's martial arts, writing, or something else entirely, it's important to find something that we are passionate about and to nurture that passion throughout our lives. Being relevant keeps us connected to the world around us, and helps us make the most of every stage of life.
